Last weekend I visited a friend of mine in London. It was a great long weekend and I’ve done many thing like seeing places, shopping stores and eating english breakfast! London is such a great inspirational city. I even was able to visit DixonBaxi, one of my favorite designstudios. They make wonderful work and I just wanted to say “He guys you’re dope!” so I did! Like always I made pictures who all can be found in my latest flickr set. And before I forget, a big shout out to Amo for being a great friend and host. Many thanks!

Brainstorm sessions are the new meetings

I can be short about this one. Last week the boy Guillaume (Filling Pieces) hooked me up and settled a meeting with the Green Paper Boys for a brainstorm session on their identity. Like I tweeted today, brainstorm sessions are the new meetings! All I can say, there came some good out and I have a worth job to do! Stay tuned! New Year’s Eve

From this year new year’s eve I’ve made a 60 second short movie. This is also an assignment for school. I was free to choose a subject for the video so I named the short movie “New Year’s Eve”. The music I used comes from the Menahan Street Band, it’s the song The Traitor. So happy new year and enjoy my first Canon 500D short movie ;)
Portfolio update

The last few days I was busy updating my portfolio website. Tonight I added 2 project again: Sushi Shaped 3D and the Ray Azaria visual where I collaborated with Mischa Loppies (AiCatch). Above you see the typography for the Ray Azaria visual what was my part of the collab. Keep your eyes open cause I’m still not done updating ;)

Last night was crazy, the Sushi Shaped logo I made in 3D really rocked at HOD! As you can see, the photo above are stills from a film. Yes I filmed a lot with my Canon 500D last night so you can expect the video I’m making for Sushi Shaped very soon! Just give me some time for the editing and diving into the “Sushi Cave” aka studio for music.

Yesterday I started a little project, making the Sushi Shaped logo 3D. The logo is designed with the Shaped typeface. November the 27th will be the first time Sushi Shaped (dj and producer) rocking at a party named HOD so of course they wanted something special for the photos. They finally gonna show us what the’ve made in the “Sushi Cave” aka studio together with the Firebeatz, Ryan Marciano and Sunnery James and maybe his girlfriend Doutzen Kroes. Smart concept

Today’s advertising class was pretty cool. We had a briefing who asks a campaign for Smart with the thought they are environment friendly and don’t need much fuel. The ad I made tells you the Smart can drive a long time with just a little fuel. “Hier ligt een halve kilometer”. I also added 1:30 on the logo (click here for a better look). The teacher liked it and gave me two nines for the concept and execution. The only critic was that the half kilometer should had be more, something like 5 kilometers and yes I think he’s right.
The other part of the lesson Pim Vuik came by. A well-known advertising photographer. His story was really instructive and very inspiring. He told us about him as photographer working with several art directors and how they solve problems in projects.

Yes this time some work from myself. The autumn vacation gave me the opportunity to shoot some pictures for my portfolio. Above you see my portfolio book, named “So far the art of Daniël R Sumarna“. Yes I know, quite a big name for a young designer like me but I saw the laugh in it. It contains 4 years of clients, personal and school work. The other one is a promotional poster for Mediaal what is one of my lastest projects.
About my portfolio, at the moment I really struggling with my own identity (I’d recently signed me in at the Chamber of Commerce yay). That’s the reason I uploaded all my work on Behance Network, which is a very cool network for designers (I love the appreciate thing), but not so client friendly. So I really want to get my identity done soon but I think time won’t let me. I also though about a Cargo website, I asked an invite yesterday and received it the same day, but I prefer something that keeps my website and blog in line. If you have any suggestions for a nice website leave a comment, I fixed the comment fields problem for the firefox users. Well till the time I haven’t a real thing I just rock on social networks. One last thing, my Black Origami was posted yesterday on Design You Trust and Collect3d!

Recently I’ve contacted with HypeForType about Shaped. Shaped is a new typeface I’ve made. Two months ago I designed a logo for a dj and producer filed under the name Sushi Shaped. For this logo I designed a custom font. I was happy about it and worked it out into two whole typefaces, Shaped and Shaped Remix. The HypeForType team is currently busy working out Shaped into a type able file so stay tuned. Shaped will be available for sell about a couple of weeks on HypeForType!
